STUBS (as in 'ticket stubs') is a registered charity that provides practical support for UK armed services personnel who have been severely injured whilst on duty.
A key aspect of STUBS work is support for the UK's most seriously injured servicemen and servicewomen, who are in-patients at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) at Headley Court, Epsom. Severely-injured in-patients from Headley Court are frequent visitors to STUBS events including Harlequins home games, where STUBS rents an executive box on the halfway line offering patients a great view of the action. Patients also attend a wide range of other sporting events and for many, their initial outing to a STUBS event is their first time out in public since being injured.

STUBS events have a considerable therapeutic value. Its not just a "trip to the rugby" - its being made to feel special, and valued, at a life-changing time, that gives patients a special "buzz" that really helps with their rehabilitation. A booklet detailing our work with DMRC Headley Court, that includes a foreword by the Commanding Officer, medical opinion from therapists and linguistic specialists, and patient feedback, can be downloaded here.

On a typical match day, guests will join us for lunch before enjoying the match from seats close to the halfway line. We use a hospitality box as this means that we can host patients with quite severe injuries who are still needing ongoing care. Everything is on one level, with no steps or stairs to climb, and the box provides a safe and secure environment for patients who are still recovering.
After the match our guests will usually enjoy a visit from one or more of the Harlequins team, who conduct a draw for a signed match ball. Each guest receives a signed photo as a memento of their visit.
“This is a worthwhile venture that deserves your wholehearted support”.
Sir Ian McGeechan, OBE
